Questions, Answered.
Everything you need to know about renting a Polaris UTV on Minnesota's Iron Range — from booking and requirements to weather, equipment, and where to find us.
Booking & Availability
How far in advance should I book a UTV rental?
We recommend booking your Polaris UTV rental as early as possible. Peak summer weekends on the Iron Range fill up quickly, so reserving ahead is the best way to lock in your preferred date and vehicle. A $250 deposit holds your reservation when you book.
Can I book a UTV rental same-day?
Same-day UTV rentals are possible when we have availability, but they are never guaranteed — especially in peak season. The fastest way to check is to call us at 218-404-8303. Booking ahead online is always the surest way to secure your ride near Gilbert, MN.
What happens if I'm late for my reservation?
Please arrive 30 minutes before your reservation start time to complete check-in and orientation. Your rental window begins at the scheduled start time, so arriving late means less time on the trail. Check-out is 10:00 a.m. and vehicles are due back by 7:00 p.m.
Requirements & Rules
Do I need a driver’s license to rent a UTV in Minnesota?
Yes. Drivers must have a valid driver’s license to operate a UTV at Laurentian Adventures on the Iron Range. You’ll also need a credit card that matches the primary driver’s ID for the damage deposit hold collected at pick-up.
What is the minimum age to drive or ride?
Operators must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license, and you must be 21+ to carry a minor passenger. Children riding as passengers must be a minimum of 46 inches tall to ride safely. This activity is not suitable for pregnant women.
Are helmets required?
Yes. Safety is our priority on every Iron Range trail. DOT-approved helmets and goggles are required and included for all riders with every UTV rental, from beginner routes to expert terrain. A pre-ride safety orientation is also part of every rental.
Experience & Safety
Is this beginner-friendly?
Absolutely. Our 36+ miles of Iron Range trails range from beginner-friendly cruises to expert-only terrain, so first-time riders and seasoned off-roaders both feel at home. Every UTV rental starts with a pre-ride safety orientation and trail briefing so you know exactly what to expect.
Do you provide training or orientation?
Yes. Every Polaris UTV rental includes a pre-ride safety orientation and trail briefing covering how to operate the vehicle, trail etiquette, and route suggestions. Our team knows these Iron Range trails intimately and will point you toward the best routes for your skill level.
What happens if we get lost on the trail?
Every UTV comes with a GPS unit pre-loaded with our trail maps plus an emergency communication device, so you’re never truly on your own. All rides stay within 50 miles of our Gilbert, MN outfitter location, and on-call assistance is available throughout your adventure.
Equipment & Rentals
What’s included with a UTV rental?
Each rental includes a new Polaris UTV (2–5 seats depending on model) with a full tank of fuel, DOT-approved helmets and goggles for all riders, a GPS unit pre-loaded with trail maps, trail and OHV park registration, an emergency communication device, and a pre-ride safety orientation.
Can we switch drivers during the rental?
Yes, as long as every driver is 21+ with a valid driver’s license and was listed at check-in. All drivers must complete the safety orientation. Keep in mind the credit card used for the damage deposit hold must match the primary driver’s ID.
Are rides guided or self-guided?
Our Iron Range UTV rentals are self-guided. You explore at your own pace using a GPS pre-loaded with our trails, backed by a pre-ride orientation, route suggestions from our local team, an emergency communication device, and on-call support if you need a hand.
Weather & Cancellation
What happens if it rains?
We ride rain or shine on the Iron Range — a little weather is part of the adventure. For everyone’s safety we will cancel for severe conditions such as lightning or high winds. Dress in layers, since forest temperatures can run 10–15°F cooler than in town.
Can I reschedule my reservation?
We’ll do our best to accommodate reschedule requests based on availability. Please contact us by phone at 218-404-8303 or email booking@laurentianadventures.com during business hours — we cannot accept changes by text or social media. Earlier notice gives us the best chance to move your date.
What is your refund and cancellation policy?
Cancel 21+ days in advance for a 100% deposit refund, 8–21 days for a 50% refund; cancellations within 7 days are non-refundable. Cancellations must be made by phone (218-404-8303) or email during business hours — not by text or social media.
Location & Logistics
Where are you located?
Laurentian Adventures is located at 245 Highway 37 in Gilbert, MN 55741 — the heart of Minnesota’s Iron Range and the region’s off-road capital. We’re about an hour from Duluth and roughly three hours from the Twin Cities. We’re open seasonally, May through October.
Is parking available?
Yes. Free parking is available at our Gilbert, MN outfitter and West Forty campground location, so you can leave your vehicle on-site while you’re out on the trails. Plan to arrive 30 minutes before your start time for check-in and orientation.
Is there nearby lodging?
